If you plan to visit Cusco there are plenty of options for a trek, from 2 to 8 days.
The most popular trek is the classic Inka Trail to Machu Picchu ( 2 or 4 days), but this trek has to be booked far in advance (about 4 months) as spaces are limited.
Alternative routes also offer spectacular scenery and are less frequented by tourists.
You should bring normal fitness for a trek in the Cusco area and we recommend to allow for at least 2 days to aclimatize to the altitude before starting a trek.
If you want to see arqueological sites the Inka Trail and Choquekirao Trek are the most interesting options.
If you prefer andean scenery and typical villages we recommend the Lares Trek. This Trek can be combined with Machu Picchu!
If you are looking for a trek that takes you to Machu Picchu and is not too long, there is the Salkantay Trek.
You don´t have much time? The Huchuy Qosqo trek is only 2 days and can be combined with Machu Picchu.
